The list of nominees for the Mercury Music Prize, the only remotely credible music award left, has been announced today and it is somewhat underwhelming. Alt-J, who were interviewed by me last week, are the bookies favourites but it’s hard to tell. Sometimes the winner is obvious, such as when The xx won in 2010 (everyone knew that result way before the presentation), and other times it can seem way out of town (Speech Debelle anyone?). See what you make of the 2012 list.

The Maccabees – Given To The Wild
Jessie Ware – Devotion
Roller Trio – Roller Trio
Django Django – Django Django
Field Music – Plumb
Michael Kiwanuka – Home Again
Richard Hawley – Standing At The Sky’s Edge
Ben Howard – Every Kingdom
Sam Lee – Ground Of Its Own
Lianne La Havas – Is Your Love Big Enough?
Alt -J – An Awesome Wave
Plan B – Ill Manors
